How many layers

I'm fiberglassing a small single 12" enclosure, only pushing about 300 watts, how many layers of mat do I need to lay on the inside?  I'm forming the back, bottom and one side to the trunk so I need to know how many layers to lay for that, mdf on the front, other side and top, placing my ring and stretching fleece over the front to give the front some shape and laying fiberglass on the fleece.

Re: How many layers

Well first off make sure your air space is correct, if it isnt then your sub is gonna sound horrible. once you have that all set the the glassing will be cake.
for that kind of bax i would say at least 4 layers maybe even 6. im always very generous when it comes to layers of glass. better to have it too strong then to have your hard work crack at the first bass hit.
hope this helps

Re: How many layers

Is there any general rule for layers of fiberglass vs wattage?  How many layers does standard fleece account for?  Also if I lay 1 or 2 layers down then stretch fleece over that to connect to the mdf will I lose fitment to wall of the trunk?  If so, whats the best way to marry the mdf to the fiberglass?

Re: How many layers

lol slow down bud, first there is general rule. fleece should account for nothing. its so thin and delicate that you need to have glass over it.
marrying the fleece to the mdf is simple, take it to Vegas. lol no usually i rabbit the edges of the mdf and staple the fleece into to rabbited edge then soak it with resin.
and i would lay at least 3 layers down before you start stretching fleece. and no you shouldnt lose any fitment.
can you draw a basic idea of what your box is gonna look like and post it up?

Re: How many layers

Lol, I guess that is a lot when I go back and read it.  This is just something I've been wanting to try and tackle for years and finally got the gumption to do so I'm a little excited and somewhat nervous and when I get like that I start asking lots and lots of questions.  So what's the rule for layers of mat per wattage because after I complete this one and if it turns out good then I'm going to start on another for a 1000W 2 sub system.  Other than that I think I'm pretty good, got all my supplies today, watched the videos about 4 times, feeling good about it.

Re: How many layers

Sorry man, looks like I failed to slip a "no" in there. There is no rule actually. at least not that I have heard of. but dont let that stop you. start glassing, take it slow for the time being and just be careful. remember to let everything cure completely before you start putting stress of it. and also your flat parts are going to be the weakest so give those parts extra layers.
other then that man have a blast! if you have any questions just let us know, love to help ya out.
